16th Annual Palmetto State Brewers Open
December 6, 2014
Palmetto State Brewers is proud to present its 16th PSBO. The competition is AHA/BJCP Sanctioned and is the final event in the 2014 Carolinas Brewer of the Year competition circuit. All styles will be accepted and judged according to the 2008 BJCP Guidelines.
Location
Conquest Brewing
947 S. Stadium Road, Bay 1
Columbia, SC 29201
Entries
Entries will be accepted beginning 10-8-14
Entry deadline is 11-22-14
Two 12oz. bottles of each entry are required. However, for categories likely to require a mini-BOS (IPA, PA, Stout etc.) a third bottle is suggested to assure a fresh beer should the entry make the BOS round. This is entirely up to the brewer. A single 750 ml bottle of mead or cider will be sufficient.
If cap has writing on it, please black it out with a magic marker prior to submitting. Bottles should be without lettering or logo which might identify the entry to the judges.
All entries are $6.00. Make Checks or Money Orders payable to Palmetto State Brewers.
Payment must accompany entries or they may not be judged!
Judges and Stewards
PSB invites and welcomes all BJCP and experienced judges and stewards to join us for what is traditionally a fun competition with excellent food beginning with early brunch and our famous lunch.
Judges should register on-line in order to help assure they get to judge a favorite style and avoid a disliked one. Participants wanting to serve as a judge should have either judged or worked as a steward at a previous AHA Sanctioned competition. Otherwise, they are welcome to steward where they will learn the mechanics of a competition, taste the entries, and gain insight into procedures judges use to evaluate beer.
If entry numbers require a judging session Friday night it will provide an opportunity for BJCP judges to gain and extra 0.5 experience point. Please let us know if you would like to participate in a Friday session.
Judges and stewards should arrive no later than 8 AM Saturday morning. The Friday session usually begins about 6:30 or 7:00 and continues until designated flights are completed.
Charity Raffle
A super raffle of beer related and fun items will be held while the BOS round is being judged. This year our charity is Pets Inc. a long established organization that finds families for cats and dogs who are abandoned, the victims of cruelty, or who do not have homes for other reasons.
